Karlsruhe, Germany, 25.07.2019. The results of the three-year EU project AEOLIX (Architecture for European Logistics Information Exchange) were presented at the final conference, which took place in Hamburg on 26 June 2019. The project partners succeeded in setting up a pan-European platform offering useful ser-vices for the supply chain. The collaborative IT infrastructure promotes trans-parency and significantly improves efficiency, productivity and sustainability. The PTV Group was one of the project partners of this European flagship pro-ject. PTV’s transport experts will also be involved in the follow-up project FENIX.
The project partners focussed on three key challenges: the provision of a secure communication channel for the exchange of data between the existing systems and software services, the creation of a dashboard as well as application interfaces for the AEOLIX platform users. The AEOLIX system is being tested under real-life conditions in 12 ‘Living Labs’ throughout Europe. The Living Lab applications cover the entire supply chain.
PTV Group was responsible for the work package on governance, i.e. the management and allocation of rights, and for the work package dealing with various services for the platform. In this context, the company provided applications and services for route planning, geocoding and arrival time calculation. “Together with Jan de Rijk Logistics, we are currently coordinating one of the living labs. Our ETA service, which calculates the expected arrival time in real-time, is used for almost all living labs. In partnership with Jan de Rijk Logistics we are testing the new collaborative planning concept. The optimisation software PTV Route Optimiser, which is used for route planning and trip allocation to subcontractors, is one of the tools deployed here," explains Florian Krietsch, Senior Project Manager Logistics Research, who manages the project on the PTV side.
Security is a top priority. Communication via the AEOLIX platform is protected: There are several control mechanisms concerning data protection, authentication and security for users who want to join the community and use the system. The data can flow in real-time, which significantly improves operational planning.
The actors who exchange information via the platform – whether as users or as data owners – include transport companies, port authorities, infrastructure operators, technology suppliers or even service providers. The services and applications range from route planning and intermodal transport planning to CO2 monitoring and hazardous goods management, etc.
The conference attendees of the closing event were extremely interested in this EU model project and impressed by the good results and the system’s suitability for everyday use under real-life conditions. The follow-up project FENIX will start in August.
