Karlsruhe, Germany, 30/3/2020. Currently, every day brings new challenges for transport logistics. These include wait times at the borders resulting in delays in shipments. Transparency is now more important than ever for schedulers. Therefore, PTV Group has reached an agreement with real-time data supplier Sixfold at short notice in order to integrate their data on current border wait times into PTV route planning software
There have always been major delays at several European border crossings. However, restrictions imposed by individual EU member states due to the coronavirus have temporarily brought the flow of goods to a virtual standstill. And even if the situation has improved in the meantime, transparency continues to be key for efficient scheduling.
An additional data layer from the company Sixfold enables PTV Map&Guide internet users to immediately see what's going on at Europe's borders. In response to the current events, PTV has added this layer to the digital map of its route planning software. Green, orange and red dots show the dispatcher at a glance whether traffic is flowing smoothly, coming to a halt or whether long wait times are to be expected. The length of the traffic jam as well as the estimated wait time at border crossings are displayed for both directions. As a result, the logistics department has access to up-to-date information on additional travel times and possible alternative routes and can thus respond faster to daily challenges.
PTV will also integrate this helpful new feature into other software products.
Those interested in the route planner and the new functionality can test the tool for seven days free of charge and explore the benefits of transparent planning: https://www.ptvgroup.com/en/solutions/products/ptv-mapandguide/test-now/
