At this year’s Carbon Reduction Conference initiated by FTA, PTV was the official sponsor of the Smaller Fleet Operator of the Year Award. The winning company, Longcliffe Quarriers Ltd, set a core objective to improve fuel consumption per mile by four per cent in 12 months. The company was accredited by the LCRS judges as its initiatives can encourage other similar sized fleet operators to reduce carbon emissions.

Longcliffe Quarriers has 40 HGVs, comprising tankers and tippers. To achieve the goal of reducing the fuel consumption an Engine Management Satellite Tracking system was implemented monitoring fuel consumption and driving behaviours. Drivers have also been individually trained. Tyre pressure sensors have been fitted to increase fuel efficiency and tyre life. Progress to date suggests the targeted four per cent improvement has already been exceeded after six months.

James de Roo, Business Development Manager, PTV UK Limited said, “Climate protection by reducing fuel consumption is an important topic within the logistics business   and gives the power to compete and strengthen its position. Our innovative solutions enable transport logistics companies worldwide not only to save money, but also to provide a complete new range of sustainable and eco-friendly logistics services. Thanks to PTV`s logistics solutions keeping an eye on fleet efficiency, emissions and costs when planning, calculating or navigating transports, the benefit for road hauliers and the environment is an overall saving of tons of CO2 and fuel costs.” To prove its position as an expert, PTV also gave a workshop session at the Carbon Reduction Conference concerning CO2-free City Logistics in cooperation with Dr. Jacques Leonardi, Senior Research Fellow for Transport Studies at the University of Westminster. The output of that workshop and the question, how can the transport industry meet the ambition to reduce carbon and what actions have to be taken, are detailed in PTV’s new whitepaper ‘How do you cut costs by cutting carbon?’ The whitepaper can be downloaded free of charge at: http://ptv.to/cuttingcarbon
